The outdoor season is slowly coming to an end and from late autumn Polish hockey moves indoors. Many players use the same stick there as in summer \u2013 and lose out. An indoor stick is a separate design, built for different rules and a different surface. Here is how it differs and how to choose your first one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In indoor hockey you may not hit the ball with a backswing \u2013 only pushes and flicks are allowed, and apart from a shot at goal the ball should stay on the floor. The game is played on a small pitch with boards, at a pace much higher than on turf. A heavy, stiff stick designed for powerful hits is simply unnecessary in those conditions \u2013 hand speed and ball feel are what count. It forgives mistakes on the receive and teaches ball feel.
